Bakery & Market · Zeeheldenkwartier
In 2021, 141 neighbours lent us €110,000 to turn two shopfronts on Piet Heinstraat into an open-kitchen sourdough bakery, a coffee bar and a small market. It opened with a queue. There’s usually still one.

Naturally leavened, long-fermented, baked in the open kitchen at the back of the shop. Flour is stone-ground at a windmill in Schiedam; grain comes from farmers nearby.

Laminated by hand with real butter. Croissants, pain au chocolat, almond croissants and a seasonal special, plus the Scandinavian buns people cross town for.

Small, honest pastries with a southern-European accent.

Friedhats beans from Amsterdam on a Modbar. Espresso, filter and batch brew. Oat milk, naturally.

The other half of the shop: a wall of natural, low-intervention wine, cheeses, ferments, oils, conserves, chips and the odd cookbook. Things we’d buy ourselves.
Big order?
Email us a day ahead with what you’d like and when you’ll pick it up. Loaves, buns, a brunch spread for the office. We’ll have it boxed and ready at the counter.
Pre-orderFAQ
We bake sourdough loaves, baguettes and focaccia every morning at the Bakery & Market. Popular bakes like pain au chocolat and cardamom buns often sell out before closing, so come early.
Most of the menu is vegetarian. Our sourdough loaf, baguette and focaccia are vegan. Ask the team about allergens, everything is baked in a kitchen that handles nuts, dairy, eggs and gluten.
Yes. The market side of Piet Heinstraat stocks a curated wall of natural, low-intervention wines plus pantry goods, conserves and snacks to take away.
Card payment only: debit and credit cards, including contactless and phone wallets. We don’t accept cash.
